RBD13 conical-type coarse wire drawing line

In addition to the lines, that have the standard in-line design, there are a conical-type coarse wire drawing line, a distinctive feature of which is the design of the drawing mill, where the pull-through capstan has a conical (pyramidal) stepped configuration. The drawing mill is equipped with 4 cones on separate shafts. The diameter and number of steps are calculated according to the set and gear ratio. As with the in-line drawing machine, the conical model’s set usually consists of 13 dies. In some cases, the set is customized to 15 dies.

Optionally, as the take-up machine it can be used:

  • Single take-up machine (the wire receiving on one coil with a size of 500-630 mm);
  • Double take-up machine (the wire receiving on one coil with a size of 500-630 mm with the cutover ability from a filled coil to an empty one without stopping the line);
  • The coiler-type take-up machine (the wire receiving into the basket);

The advantage of the conical-type drawing mill is its compactability and low cost, and the disadvantage is the longer threading and average productivity . At the round-the-clock production, the operating speed of the line allows to process 130 tons per month.

General Information about coarse wire drawing

The main method of producing copper or aluminum wire is the drawing method. It is that during the drawing process, a rolled wire (or a heavy-gage wire) is stretched through the conforming section (channel) of the drawing tool - dies. Dies have a special configuration channel that facilitates the stretching process. By repeatedly a workpiece stretching through dies with a gradually decreasing diameter of the outlet, it is obtained the required diameter of wire. For copper or aluminum drawing, it’s used similar equipment according to the principle of technology.

The coarse wire drawing line is consist of:

  • Pay-off machine;
  • Drawing mill;
  • Annealing attachment;
  • Compensator valve;
  • Take-up machine;

Drawing lines for aluminum are similar to copper ones, the main distinguishing feature is the unavailability of the annealing attachment. For copper drawing it’s used Ø8 mm rolled wire, and for aluminum drawing it’s used Ø9.5 mm rolled wire. The wire output range is from Ø1.2 to Ø5.0 mm, it depends on the selected machine model. The output range varies from component parts and individual customization of the line according to customer requirements.

Q&A for сoarse wire drawing

What is the сoarse wire drawing?

The coarse wire drawing is a multiple process of stretching the copper or aluminum rolled wire or wire through a section (channel) of the drawing tool (dies) with a gradually reducing diameter, which allows to obtain a wire with the required diameter.

What is the difference between the coarse wire drawing of copper and aluminum?

Drawing lines for aluminum are similar to copper ones, the main distinguishing feature is the unavailability of the annealing attachment, and the different inlet diameter of the workpiece.

What characteristics influence on the choice of the machine model and the configuration of the coarse drawing line?

The choice of machine model and the line configuration depends on the required range of wire diameters and other parameters, that required by a customer.
