General Information about ring air knives

The annular air knife consists of two air knives connected by two curved joints to provide a large air flow. The air consumption is very low, yet it is capable of producing a powerful blowing force. The magnification ratio of the ring air knife is 30:1, which allows it to create a high-performance airflow to cool and dry all sides of the product. The ring design provides a stable and powerful airflow covering the sides of the object, allowing for complete removal of water and contaminants.

Schematic diagram of the ring air knife

Compressed air enters through the inlet (1) into the annular cavity (2) and is then accelerated and passed through the annular nozzle (3). At the same time, the air stream initially exits at Cohend velocity (4), forming a gradient flow along the side wall of the annular cavity. This creates a low pressure region (5) in the center portion on one side of the annular cavity, forcing ambient air to move to the other side of the annular cavity along with the high velocity air exit. As the air flow exits the annular cavity, a 360° tapered annular flow is formed which uniformly and powerfully continues to remove contaminants, water and other impurities from the material (6) passing through the annular cavity.

Four M6 screw holes (A, B, C, D) are provided for mounting, their location can be selected according to the specific situation. Two connection plates at the top and bottom of the product are provided for assembly and disassembly.

Technical drawing of ring air knife
  • Compressed air must be dry and oil free, otherwise it may affect the life and performance of the ring air knife.
  • It is recommended that automatic 5-micron class moisture separators and 0.3-micron class oil filters be used and installed as close to the product as possible.
  • Care should be taken to minimize the distance to the compressed air source. If the distance is considerable, use 1/2" diameter pipe, and if the distance is greater than 30 meters, use 1" diameter pipe.
  • Compressed air pressure should be in the range of 0.55 to 0.69 MPa.
  • If the flow rate and nozzle force of the ring air knife is reduced, the following may be the case: compressed air line diameter is too small, restrictions in the air supply system, clogged filters, etc.

It is possible to select the appropriate model of the ring air knife according to the product diameter.

The ring air knife can be supported by metal compressed air tubes, and can be installed and fixed by threaded holes in the bottom of the product.

Q&A for ring air knives

What is a ring air knife used for?
  1. Cleaning the surface of pipes, removing oil, splinters, debris, waste, water and dust.
  2. Cooling of molds and castings.
  3. Cooling of materials after extrusion.
  4. Replacing open nozzles for processing parts with compressed air.
  5. Cooling of continuous long parts such as wires, hoses, pipes, etc.
  6. Cleaning material from contaminants during radial conveying.
  7. Drying after washing, cleaning, coating or plating processes.
  8. Providing an ideal solution for drying pipes, cables, extrusion-molded materials, wires, rulers and water pipes.
What are the characteristics of a ring air knife?
  • Low noise level (up to 70 dB)
  • Low compressed air consumption, environmentally friendly and energy efficient
  • Uniform air flow, air compression ratio up to 40:1
  • No power supply required, no moving parts
  • Compact dimensions, easy installation
  • Compact and robust separator design
  • Adjustable power and flow volume
  • Complies with maximum pressure and noise requirements
  • Does not require contact with material surface
How to choose the ring air knife model according to the diameter of the product?

Determine the diameter of the product. The internal diameter of the air knife should be 8-50 mm larger than the diameter of the workpiece (depending on the diameter of the product). Choose a ring air knife model that matches your parameters.

How to select the right air knife material?

For different environmental conditions, select materials as follows: for normal conditions, aluminum alloy is preferred, for high temperature and corrosion applications, stainless steel is preferred, and for the food industry, materials that meet food safety standards are preferred.
