General Information about wire drawing tool.
Die is a round-shaped tool, that designed for narrowing a large diameter of copper or aluminum workpiece. Drawing tool (die) has the special channel configuration that facilitates the stretching process.
The required wire diameter is obtained by multiple drawing process with the gradual decrease of the hole diameter. It is used from 9 to 27 drawing stages and tools.
PCD polycrystal - has a characteristic dark color. This is the artificial diamond, that created by using small diamond particles and metal powder? which was pressed under high temperature into the single substance.
Dies,which made of polycrystalline diamond, have a long service life, allow to obtain a wire with excellent roundness, and also make it possible to predict dies wear period.

ØA is the die diameter; Øa is the insert diametert; B is the width of the die; b is the size of the PCD insert ; α is the inlet angle; E is the length of the working hole; Ød is the output diameter;
Materials:
- Mandrel: alloy steel (size is the optional value according to customer's require size)
- Insert PCD - the super-hard synthetic (industrial) diamond
Q&A
Drawing tool (the alternate name is die) is a round-shaped tool, that designed for narrowing a large diameter of copper or aluminum workpiece. Drawing tool (die) has the special channel configuration that facilitates the stretching process. By repeatedly a workpiece stretching with a gradually decreasing diameter of the outlet, it is obtained the required diameter of wire.
Important characteristics of drawing tool include:
- Shape and size of holes;
- Length;
- Wear resistance;
- Surface quality;
- Diameter accuracy
The drawing tool (die) are made of carbide materials, such as tungsten carbide. The central insert is made of a industrial diamond, that has a darkish color. This combination of materials makes the drawing tool (die) sufficiently wear-resistant and durable, and it significantly increases the production life of the tool.
