General information of pallet trucks

Purpose

Lifting, moving, and precise positioning of the load

Construction principle

Forks:

These are horizontal elements that fit under the pallet and are used to lift the load. They are typically adjustable in width to accommodate standard pallet sizes.

Handle:

The handle is used to control the pallet truck. Through the handle, the operator activates the hydraulic system, allowing the forks to be raised or lowered. In some models, the handle includes additional functions, such as brake control or the ability to lock the handle in a specific position.

Hydraulic system:

The operating principle of the pallet jack is based on a hydraulic mechanism. The system includes a pump, cylinders, and pistons. When the operator presses the handle, the fluid in the pump is compressed, causing the piston to move and raise the forks. The hydraulic system of the pallet jack allows the load to be lifted with a force much greater than what a person could exert manually.

Rollers (wheels):

The wheels of a pallet jack allow the truck to be moved across the floor. Pallet jacks can be equipped with either two or four rollers, depending on the model. The wheels can be either rigid or swivel, which improves the maneuverability of the pallet jack in confined spaces. Swivel wheels provide better control and flexibility when navigating tight areas, while rigid wheels offer stability and support during movement over longer distances.

Pump and valves:

Pump — is part of the hydraulic system that generates pressure in the fluid medium. The valves control the flow of the fluid, regulating the lifting and lowering of the forks. When the pump is activated, the pressurized fluid is directed into the cylinder, causing the forks to rise. To lower the load, the valve opens, and the fluid exits the cylinder, lowering the forks.

Frame:

This is the main structure of the pallet jack, which connects all components and ensures its strength and stability.

Questions and answers

What loads can be transported using a pallet jack?

Pallet truck suitable for transporting palletized loads weighing up to 2–3 tons, depending on the model.

Which wheels are better to choose — nylon, rubber, or polyurethane?

Nylon wheels are suitable for smooth and hard floors, rubber wheels are ideal for soft and noise-absorbing surfaces, while polyurethane wheels are a versatile option for most types of surfaces.
