Cabling. Selection of cabling equipment

Cabling is a technological operation in which insulated cores are stranding into the round-shaped cable workpiece.

Depending on the working unit structure, there are following types of stranding machines for cabling:

  1. Machines with a pay-off device, that combined with a working unit. These are lantern-type (cage-type) machines, disc-type machines, tubular machines, bow-type machines.
  2. Machines with a working unit, that combined with a take-up device. These are frame-type (multifilament) single stranding machines with and without unscrewing function and frame-type double stranding machines without unscrewing, multipurpose stranding machines (DrumTwister).

Using all these types of machines, it is possible to strand both CCC and cable and wires workpiecе from insulated cores.

When deciding which of the stranding machine model will be used for stranding insulated cores, the following factors should be considered:

Special features of stranding machines.

As for the stranding quality, lantern-type, disc-type, tubular and bow-type machines are in the lead. The maximum linear twisting speed of stranding is up to 40 m/min.

In terms of productivity, frame-type double stranding machines take up the leading position, and frame-type single stranding machines take up the second place. The maximum linear speed of frame-type double stranding machines is up to 180 m/min. The differences between frame-type single and double stranding machines is that, with one rotation of the torsion frame, the workpiece is stranding by 2 steps in double stranding machines, and in single stranding machines by 1 step. Accordingly, double stranding machines twice as productivity as single stranding machines.

A special feature of the frame-type single stranding machine is that it provides a higher quality of twisting compared to double stranding machines. Moreover, this machine, complete with pay-off devices, that have the "unscrewing" function, and the pay-of device for foil-laminated film, allows to strand UTP/FTP type computer cables workpiece with sufficiently high productivity.
